La mayor parte de los pacientes con COVID-19 se reestablecen de la infección en promedio de dos semanas, pero éstos virus no siempre logran desaparecer del cuerpo de forma inminente. Sin embargo, algunos de ellos albergan restos virales durante semanas o meses después de que se solucionan sus síntomas primarios por COVID-19.
El COVID prolongado puede interferir con la capacidad de una persona para desarrollar labores cotidianas normales, como el trabajar y las tareas del hogar. La COVID prolongada puede asociarse con una calidad de vida deficiente.
