En julio de 2022, la Organización Mundial de la Salud declaró el brote de viruela símica como una emergencia de salud pública de importancia internacional. Ya que el número de casos de viruela del simio se encontraba en aumento considerable en varios países del mundo. Por lo tanto, resulta indispensable tomar en consideración medidas para mitigar la propagación de la enfermedad y por lo tanto, en estas circunstancias, la vacunación es la mejor opción para neutralizar el virus de la viruela símica.
