El asma es una de las principales enfermedades no transmisibles (ENT), que afecta a niños y adultos. En 2019 afectó a 262 millones de personas y causó 461 000 muertes.
En el entorno ocupacional una serie de factores podrían influir en provocar asma, activarlo por vez primera o reactivar aquel previamente inactivo. Aproximadamente entre 17% a 25% de los casos de asma en adultos se relacionan con el trabajo.
