El síndrome febril ocurre como una respuesta agresiva hacia el agente infeccioso y hospedero, representa un mecanismo de defensa del sistema inmunológico contra los agentes biológicos-infecciosos del medio.
El síndrome febril agudo (SFA) representa el estado mórbido cuyo inicio es repentino con fiebre menor a 7 días de evolución, en personas de 5 a 65 años, en los que no se ha identificado signos ni síntomas relacionados con un foco infeccioso aparente.
