El virus de la COVID-19 ha pasado por una serie de mutaciones lo cual ha dado lugar a nuevas variantes que podrían escapar a la protección que brindan las vacunas. Es así que Moderna y Pfizer-BioNTech ofrecen una vacuna con componentes de ARN mensajero (ARNm) del virus del SARS-CoV-2 y de ARNm común que podrían actuar entre los linajes BA.4 y BA.5 de la variante ómicron.
