Existe el riesgo que la radiación (rayos X, rayos gamma, partículas alfa o beta y los neutrones) podría afectar la salud, lo que va a estar en función a varios factores como la cantidad de dosis recibida, el tipo de radiación y el tiempo al que estuvo expuesta; incrementando el peligro a presentar algunos tipos de cáncer en el futuro.
La exposición a la radiación ultravioleta, que es el principal componente de la luz solar tiene un efecto ambivalente, tanto positivos como negativos para la salud. Sin embargo; el incremento de casos de cáncer de piel ha planteado seria preocupación.
